It is time for your younger child to move into a bigger bed. While you can purchase a standard twin size bed for her, it may be a better option to consider captain's beds. This type of children's beds work well because of all of the features they offer, and because of how well they grow with the child. This bed is great for a child that is younger, even under five, with the proper assurance that he or she will not roll off the bed at night. As you consider the investment in these beds, consider a few features that may be ideal for your child.
1. Have you considered kids storage beds that feature large drawers? Younger children have a lot of smaller toys. Use some of the drawers under this platform style bed for clothing. Use others for small toys, gadgets or even their favorite doll's clothing! This is an easy way to get more use out of this type of bed.
2. While not all beds offer this, some of the discount kid's beds available will have larger side or end cabinets on the storage feature of the bed. This is a fantastic place to store those bigger toys, including stuffed animals, big trucks and other items that should be put out of the way. This is also a good place to put sports equipment later on, when the child is older.
3. Purchase a bed that features bookcase headboards. These headboards are fantastic for younger children because they allow you to place important items here, including a nightlight for them. Surround them with a few pictures of their family and friends to make them feel comfortable even after scary dreams. You can also put toys here that they can't seem to sleep without.
4. Buy children's bedroom sets to fit their overall need. Take into consideration the height of the bed. You do not want small children to find it difficult to climb into their bed. You may want to consider purchasing a higher quality mattress than they had in a toddler bed or crib, too. This will provide their backs with more support throughout the night.
5. Do have fun with it. Kid's bedroom sets, including the captain's design, can be a lot of fun for your child. Choose from fun colors ranging from various wood tons to bright colors. You will find a variety of styles of headboards for these beds, too. Be as creative as you would like. Because they are children, they will appreciate this.
In some cases, you may want something different than the captains style. In that case, consider trundle beds for kids or go with a standard metal bed and frame. The key with children, especially at a young age, is to use furniture that is well made and that is designed to be fun to be in. Be sure to allow them to help you to select the right furniture for their room, at least somewhat, so that they will be proud of it for years to come.
